The number of deaths caused by police grows again in São Paulo. From January to April of this year, on-duty and off-duty police officers from São Paulo security forces were responsible for the deaths of 151 people. The total exceeds by 8.63% the records of the first quarter of 2022, when there were 139 deaths. According to a survey published in the Official State Gazette, what happened most frequently were deaths resulting from the action of military police officers on duty in a context of conflict. In such situations, there were 98 deaths, a number close to that reached in 2022, in the same period, when 90 deaths were officially communicated. Military Police officers who were off duty were also responsible for deaths in the state. The Official Gazette lists 37 cases that occurred under this circumstance,with an increase of 8.82% compared to the accumulated result for 2022, which totaled 34 cases.

14/07/2023 – A businessman was kidnapped while leaving his company on Rua Oscar Freire, Jardim Paulista, West Zone. Criminals sent photos of the injured man to his son and demanded R$ 2 million for ransom. After hours of phone conversation and several transfers via Pix, the businessman was released. No one was arrested, but the police reported that they had already managed to identify the three bank accounts where the criminals sent the money.
14/07/2023 – An app delivery man died after reacting to a robbery on Rua Refinaria Presidente Bernardes, in Aricanduva, East Zone, around 20:30. The victim used a bicycle to deliver food. Security cameras show when the criminal, on a motorcycle, approaches the delivery man. Pointing a gun, he tries to take the young man’s cell phone, which reacts. They fight, until the victim tries to take the criminal’s gun. At this moment, he shoots, and the delivery man falls to the ground. The criminal fled.
15/07/2023 – An elderly woman, aged 75, attacked the criminal who forced her to withdraw money from an ATM, on Alameda dos Maracatins, in Indianópolis, South Zone, around 14:00. Afterwards, the three men tried to flee in a vehicle, but a witness called the Military Police, who managed to arrest them. With them, money, dollars, jewelry, and several cards were found that the police believe belonged to other victims.
15/07/2023 – Two criminals fled after a shooting with the Military Police (PM) during a chase on Avenida Presidente Wilson, in Mooca, East Zone, at 13:00. According to information from the Military Police Operations Center (Copom), teams from the corporation were on patrol to investigate a complaint that criminals, on two motorcycles, were doing a mass robbery through the region. When they came across a motorcycle, one of the occupants fired at the PM vehicle, which retaliated. The criminals fled.
15/07/2023 – A man was found dead inside his car on Moisés Kauffmann Street, in the Tomas Edson Industrial Park, West Zone. According to the Military Police, the crime occurred at 3:33 am. At the scene, the vehicle was crossed in the street, with a bloodied man inside it. So far there is no information about the cause of death.
17/07/2023 – A military police officer reacted to a robbery in Vila Ema, East Zone. Footage from security cameras captured the moment when the police office on foot is surrounded by criminals. The man was walking down the sidewalk when he was approached. He reacted by drawing his gun and firing towards the trio. Two criminals ran away, while one of them was shot and arrested.
18/07/2023 – Civil Police carried out three search and seizure warrant for the “Saca-Pátio” operation. Officers are investigating a criminal organization that improperly released vehicles seized from police stations in São Paulo east zone. One of those investigated is a state public official. According to the police, military police officers located a vehicle that belonged to one investigated for the crime of a criminal organization. The car was seized by the Special Action Group for the Repression of Organized Crime (Gaeco) but was later released. 18/07/2023 – A gang stole R$300,000 from an armored car, which would supply ATMs in a supermarket, after an intense shooting with security guards in the Campo Limpo region, South Zone. 18/07/2023 – A businessman was robbed while driving on Rua Tenente Gomes Ribeiro in Vila Clementino, South Zone. Security camera footage recorded the crime that lasted less than a minute. The victim was with his son in the car and when he stopped at a traffic light he was accosted by an armed criminal.
18/07/2023 – Employees of the residential complex security team in the Parque dos Príncipes neighborhood, West Zone, were attacked by criminals who were trying to kidnap a family. According to the Military Police, five men invaded the residence and tried to kidnap the residents. The group would have entered the house by simulating a delivery. When they left the place, a criminal died during a shooting with the police and four others managed to escape.
19/07/2023 – A woman was chased, assaulted, and robbed by a bandit in front of her daughter, in Itaim Paulista, East Zone. The criminal arrived assaulting and threatening the victim. When he tries to pull off the gold chain, the woman reacts. Both fight until the criminal manages to take the cord and the victim’s cell phone and flee.
19/07/2023 – Two friends were kidnapped in Itaim Paulista, East Zone, after arranging a meeting over the internet to negotiate the purchase of a car. Six people were arrested, and a teenager was apprehended by the police. Victims reported that they made an appointment with the person responsible for selling a car. However, upon arriving at the scene, they were relieved by four men. The criminals robbed at least R$ 180,000 through online financial transactions.
19/07/2023 – A 67-year-old man was shot grazed in the head during an attempted robbery in the Pinheiros neighborhood, West Zone. He was approached by a criminal on a motorcycle, who chased and shot him inside a bar on Avenida Pedroso de Moraes. The victim reported that he had received a sum of money and was returning home.
19/07/2023 – A tumult was recorded on Rua dos Gusmões, in downtown São Paulo, in the region where Cracolândia is located. The movement began at around 19:15, drug addicts from the region set garbage, mattresses, and debris on fire. With gas bombs, military police carried out an intervention them, to disperse the group.
