ANOTHER DEADLY INCIDENT IS REPORTED IN A BRAZILIAN SCHOOL

On Tuesday (10/10), another violent incident was reported in a school in Brazil. A teenager from in Poços de Caldas, Minas Gerais state invaded his former, Dom Bosco, and stabbed to death a 14-year-old boy and injured other three.

Motivation

According to the police, the teenager stated that, after asking his parents to be transferred to another school, he decided to carry out an attack at the Dom Bosco Professional School as a form of revenge. According to the suspect, he carried out the attack because he had been bullied at the school, where he studied until 2021.

The Attack

The teenager stated that he took advantage of the movement of students and parents in the area and went out “stabbing randomly”. According to police, the attacker’s intention was to kill the students in his old class, but he realized that they were studying in the morning. Then, he stabbed students leaving school in the afternoon. The attack occurred around 17:00. After hitting the fourth person, the teenager dropped the knife and waited to be restrained by people who were at the scene.

Trend

A survey carried out by the Sou da Paz Institute pointed out that the first six months of 2023 had already recorded the highest number of attacks in Brazilian schools at least since 2002. Since then, 25 have been registered, 7 of which this year alone. The previous record was achieved last year, with six cases. Before that, in 2019, there were three attacks inside educational institutions. The cases seem to be intensifying each year.
