01/02/2023 – A young man was murdered on Wednesday night (1), after a widespread fight that took place during the rehearsal of the samba schools, in Vitória. The boy, identified as Pedro H. C. da Victoria, 20 years old, is the son of Councilwoman Patrícia Crizanto, from Vila Velha.

03/02/2023 – A 32-year-old woman was shot in the arm on Friday night (3) on a step street in Bairro da Penha, in Vitória. The fact happened after a shooting in the region that is known for the intense drug traffick activity.
06/02/2023 – A 28-year-old man died after a shooting on Sunday afternoon (5), in the Nova Palestina neighborhood, in Vitória. Minutes later, the car that would have been used in the crime was set on fire. Police officers were called to respond to an occurrence in the region known as Rua da Feira. At the scene, residents only reported that there had been a shooting.
12/02/2023 – Three people were hit by gunshots in the Andorinhas neighborhood, in Vitória, during a criminal attack on Sunday morning (12). Residents told police officers that the suspects drove by in front of the site and shot at the victims.
14/02/2023 – A young man was killed with about 15 shots in the middle of the street, early on Tuesday (14), in the Maria Ortiz neighborhood, in Vitória. The police were called and four Military Police vehicles were at the scene of the crime. Witnesses said he was well known in the region, but were unable to say what could have motivated the crime.
18/02/2023 – A young man was shot four times while he was with friends in a square in the São Pedro neighborhood, Vitória. The case took place on Friday night (17) and the victim is still in serious condition. According to the boy’s report to the police, the young man was with his friends when a suspect approached and shot him four times.
20/02/2023 – Four people were shot during the early hours of Monday (20), after the end of the Carnival festival in Vitória. According to police information, support teams spotted several people running towards the car. Upon checking what was happening, individuals reported a person was shot in front of a bar.
20/02/2023 – A 23-year-old young man was shot dead in the Nova Palestina neighborhood, in Vitória. The crime took place on Monday afternoon (20) in an area known as “Hot Hole”. Local residents did not want to record an interview, but said that the nickname of the place is due to the intense presence of drug trafficking.
22/02/2023 – A carnival party ended with a shooting in the early hours of Wednesday (22), in Vitória. Nobody was hurt, but the shooting scared the revelers who were still in the streets. The police were called after the shooting started and they had difficulties to reach the place due to the crowd of people.
26/02/2023 – A man was arrested by the Vitória Municipal Civil Guard (GCMV) shortly after assaulting a woman, on Saturday morning (25), in Vitória city center. The victim, who is pregnant, would travel by bus to Marechal Floriano, but ended up missing the trip.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- During summer months, petty crimes rise on the city waterfront. The Praia do Canto is particularly targeted by criminals.
- Crowded beaches and its vicinities should be avoided.
- Robberies and thefts against pedestrians are among the city’s major risks, the Centro (downtown), Jardim da Penha, Jardim Camburi, and Enseada do Sua concentrate the highest number of incidents.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, cell phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant as he or she might not be alone or turn violent.
- Violent drug trafficking gangs are present in the city. People must never access areas controlled by them, such as Bonfim, São Bento, Da Penha.
- In the case of being in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move unless you are sure that the gunfire has ended.
- Avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas or beaches after nightfall. Avoid walking through tunnels.
- Be always cautious, even in the areas considered safe.
- Exercise caution in the Centro during the day and avoid the area after nightfall and during the weekends.
