01/12/2022 – A woman was kidnapped and robbed late Thursday afternoon on a street in the Jardim da Penha neighborhood, in Vitória, in front of the victim’s building. According to the Military Police, the suspect threw the victim’s purse with the cell phone out the car window during the kidnapping.

05/12/2022 – A waste collection truck was set on fire earlier this Monday evening (05) in the Gurigica neighborhood, in Vitória. Residents of the neighborhood reported that they heard many firearm shots.

09/12/2022 – A 16-year-old teenager, suspected of participating in a confrontation between police and criminals in the Jaburu neighborhood, in Vitória, died after being shot. The exchange of fire took place on Thursday night (09), hours after a military police officer was shot.
10/12/2022 – Military police officers exchanged shots with criminals, starting a confrontation, early on Saturday (10), in the Gurigica neighborhood, in Vitória. According to information passed on by the Military Police, the military carried out a patrol in the neighborhood and came across an armed man. Upon seeing the police, the criminals started shooting.
14/12/2022 – Two women had their cell phones stolen by two suspects on bicycles. The case took place on Tuesday night (13), in the Mata da Praia neighborhood, in Vitória. One of the robbers was identified and arrested by the Military Police shortly after the crime. The cell phone of one of the victims was found.
20/12/2022 – Patients and employees were surrendered by armed criminals in a dental office, located in Maruípe, in Vitória. The action was recorded by video surveillance cameras and according to a merchant, robberies have become frequent in the region.
21/12/2022 – Mother and daughter were kidnapped in the Jardim da Penha neighborhood, in Vitória, on Tuesday night (20). According to the neighborhood, both were parking the car when they were surrendered by a man who appeared to be armed.
26/12/2022 – A 19-year-old was shot dead on Sunday (25) in Alagoano, in Vitória. The young man’s body was found near a field, which, according to residents, is the scene of several crimes.
27/12/2022 – The Post Office Distribution Center (Correios), located in Vitória, was stolen on Monday night (26). According to company information, the place was broken into. As it is a matter related to security and to preserve the integrity of employees, customers and postal objects, Correios does not disclose details about the occurrences.
28/12/2022 – A wave of break-ins, thefts and assaults scared shop owners in Jardim da Penha. According to the owner of a mattress store in the neighborhood, this year alone, the establishment has already been invaded six times, causing a loss of R$30,000. In addition to the damage caused by thefts, the invaders also leave a trail of destruction.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- During summer months, petty crimes rise on the city waterfront. The Praia do Canto is particularly targeted by criminals.
- Crowded beaches and its vicinities should be avoided.
- Robberies and thefts against pedestrians are among the city’s major risks, the Centro (downtown), Jardim da Penha, Jardim Camburi, and Enseada do Sua concentrate the highest number of incidents.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, cell phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant as he or she might not be alone or turn violent.
- Violent drug trafficking gangs are present in the city. People must never access areas controlled by them, such as Bonfim, São Bento, Da Penha.
- In the case of being in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move unless you are sure that the gunfire has ended.
- Avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas or beaches after nightfall. Avoid walking through tunnels.
- Be always cautious, even in the areas considered safe.
- Exercise caution in the Centro during the day and avoid the area after nightfall and during the weekends.
