SÃO PAULO DEVELOPS SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH IN PUBLIC SECURITY

The São Paulo Public Security Secretariat (SSP) signed on Monday (22/08) an agreement to develop scientific research in the area of public security.

Operational Cameras (COPs), Artificial Intelligence and Tools to Assist Decision-Making

One of the objectives of the initiative, which has the participation of researchers from the University of São Paulo (USP) and Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), is to measure the impact of the use of portable operational cameras (COPs) by the Military Police.

The project will last five years and will have a budget of R$ 18.6 million. The scientific and technological cooperation agreement involves, in addition to USP and FGV, the Research Support Foundation of the State of São Paulo (Fapesp) and the Public Security Secretariat.

According to the state administration, the initiative includes studying more in depth the impact of the use of portable cameras (also known as bodycams) by police officers and the creation of new artificial intelligence tools to assist in decision-making in the public security area.
