Rape cases fell 1,5% in the entire state of Sao Paulo in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2021, according to data from Instituto Sou da Paz released on Monday (13/06). In three months, there were 3.066 cases against 3.113 last year. However, this type of occurrence had an increase of 3,6% in Sao Paulo countryside. In the first quarter of 2021, there were 1.800 registrations in the countryside. In the capital, rapes fell 11,1% compared to the same period last year, from 647 to 575.
The rapes of vulnerable people, who are under 14 years old, drunk, elderly, disabled or whose health conditions prevent them from discerning the violent act, represent 76,7% of the records in the first quarter. In this public, cases grew 4,7% in the countryside, while in the capital they dropped 7,7% in relation to the same period in 2021. There were 2.352 occurrences this year, 1.442 of which were in the countryside.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office pointed out that the involuntary internments carried out by the São Paulo City Hall at Cracolândia, in downtown São Paulo (SP), were illegal. The agency will request compensation for collective damage from the city government. Last week, the City administration carried out 22 internments of drug addicts in the central region of São Paulo, relying on 2019 legislation to intern them.
11/06/2022 – An ambulance driver was stabbed in the afternoon next to the Brigadeiro subway station, near the number 500 on Av. Paulista, in the South Zone of São Paulo. Besides him, another person was injured with a knife in the episode. No information on his state of health was given.
11/06/2022 – A woman was freed after being kidnapped on her way to Sao Paulo International Airport, in Guarulhos, in the Sao Paulo metropolitan area in the morning. The victim reported that on her way, the criminals hit the back of her car. She tried to get out of thecar but was surreendered and put into another vehicle. The police managed to discover that she was being held against her will in the outskirts of Guarulhos.
12/06/2022 – A man was detained after a report of sexual harassment inside a bus, at the intersection of Javoraú St. and Santa Marina Av., near Ladeira Velha St., in Freguesia do Ó, around 21h30. Videos show the man sitting down, holding a glass of beer, with his hands in his genitalia. A woman shouted for the driver to stop at a nearby police station.
12/06/2022 – A couple’s belongings were robbed by a duo on a motorcycle, in front of a vet clinic, in Rua José Maria Lisboa, in Jardins, in the West Zone of Sao Paulo. After that first crime, further in the same street, the pair of armed criminals robbed customers of a Japanese restaurant waiting on the sidewalk at 13h23. There, a shootout happened between the criminals and an off-duty police officer walking on the other side of the sidewalk. One of the criminal was shot in the leg but managed to flee on his motorcycle. A gun and a watch were found in the street but the criminals managed to take the rest of people’s belongings.
Our analysis:
When finding yourself still in an exposed space like in a street, it is important to remain attentive to the movement around you. Even if you feel relaxed, remaining aware of your surroundings is of great importance for your protection. It is possible sometimes to anticipate risky situations, such as a robbery that is occurring on the same street where you are. Thus, it may be possible to escape before the criminals think of coming for you.
12/06/2022 – Military Police officers were patrolling Francisco da Cruz mellão St., Sao Paulo South Zone, when their dog pointed out an uninhabited house. During the search, 37kg of drugs were seized. No one was arrested. This operation intervened in the case of Operation Sufoco, that completed 40 days this Sunday.
12/06/2022 – Four criminals robbed a house in Pinheiros, in the West Zone of Sao Paulo at night. After the crime, the gang was chased by police officers on the streets of the neighborhood. A shootout took place between the criminals and the police. The criminals gave up on their stolen car and a part of the stolen items was recovered.
13/06/2022 – A suspect died after being involved in a traffic accident minutes after stealing a woman’s motorcycle on Pedro Brasil St., in the neighborhood of Cachoeirinha, in the north of Sao Paulo, in the early evening.
13/06/2022 – A man was caught kicking and knocking down a woman walking on the sidewalk in Vila Campo Grande, South Zone of Sao Paulo. The aggressor, after knocking the woman down, pretended to help her, but two men passing by the revolted and started attacking the man, who managed to escape.
14/06/2022 – Police officers located a warehouse of fake electronic products in a commercial room in a bulding on Flôrencio de Abreu St., in downtown Sao Paulo. Products such as speakers, headphones and cell phones chargers were seized, in addition to labels and brand names.
15/06/2022 – A suspect was shot, another one was detained, and a teenager apprehended during a chase that ended in an exchange of shots in the region of Cidade São Mateus, in the East Zone of São Paulo, at night. The men had stolen a car minutes before and fled from the police. The shootout occurred at the intersection of Av. dos Sertanistas and Av. Sapopemba, in Jardim Santo André, near Parque Jardim da Conquista.
16/06/2022 – Four armed men invaded a house located on Afrânio do Amaral st., in Parque São Domingos, in the North Zone of São Paulo. They took a family hostage and stole several valuable items, around 00:20. The Military Police was called but the criminals fled. So far, no suspects have been arrested.
16/06/2022 – The Military Police received in the afternoon an anonymous tip, informing about a kidnapping in progress on Av. Engenheiro Alberto de Zagottis, in Campo Grande, in the South Zone of Sao Paulo. Police officers followed up and approached the car, in which the victim was being held, on Manuel Alves Mesquita Street, Jabaquara. The victim was freed, and the two suspects were arrested. With them, the cops seized a firearm.
