Newspapers report a high number of aggressions and an increasing rate of thefts in the metro station Barra Funda, in the West Zone of Sao Paulo. People have testified on the internet of the different aggressions they went through: they are, on a general manner, committed by young people or teenagers. They generally spot people walking by themselves and take their belongings away. Security agents testified and declared they are understaffed, which makes it harder for them to prevent the occurrence of these crimes, especially during big events, such as football matches.

To avoid being stolen or assaulted in the barra Funda region, it is important to avoid walking in spaces that are not covered by video surveillance or those that are more isolated. Furthermore, the criminals don’t seem to look for discretion when acting, they attack in groups and run away once they have managed to grab what they want. 02/07/2022 – A man was shot in the chest in his luxury car, parked in a vehicle inspection store, on Av. Sumaré, in Perdizes, in the West Zone of Sao Paulo, when he was approached by criminals.

Avoiding staying in your car once it is parked is an important thing to do. Indeed, it is better to leave it and go into a store, if you need to check at your phone for instance, than to stay inside. 02/07/2022 – The police arrested two men who were burning stolen wires after being caught by Mayor Ricardo Nunes in the afternoon, in President Wilson Av, in Sao Paulo East Zone. 02/07/2022 – Two men were arrested after stealing the cell phones of a group of friends who were in front of a pizzeria in Barra Funda, in the West Zone of São Paulo. Witnesses declared the victims were ordering a pizza and got distracted while drinking. The bandits took advantage of it to steal the cell phones. One of the criminals managed to flee.
02/07/2022 – The military police shot dead the funkeiro MC Neguinho JM when driving a motorcycle in Marechal João Carlos Barreto, in Campo Limpo, in the East Zone. A shootout happened and the funkeiro did not resist his wounds. His friend who was on the motorcycle with him was sent to the hospital. A pedestrian was shot by a stray bullet in the leg.
04/07/2022 – A woman avoided a robbery attempt when parking her luxury car in her garage in Vila Anglo Brasileira, in the West Zone of Sao Paulo. Criminals were waiting for her to park when they rushed to her car, but the woman did not leave her vehicle and left the garage. The criminals went back to their car and fled the scene.
04/07/2022 – A police operation against money laundering, which took place in the Central Zone of Sao Paulo, arrested 6 criminals who were setting up illegal power grid on improvised poles and even in trees. More than 2km of cables and wires used to steal energy were seized. They created illegal energy networks and sold the service to street vendors, who were forced to pay fees similar to those of regularized companies. Three militias are said to be in charge of the scheme, which has a turnover of R$ 600 million a year on average.
04/07/2022 – Two architects were kidnapped during 8h by two criminals, in the North Zone of Sao Paulo. The criminals forced them to do PIX transfers and managed to flee before the police arrives.
05/07/2022 – Criminals, on a motorcycle, robbed a biker in Jabaquara, in the South Zone of Sao Paulo. The victim was a retired police officer, who reacted and shot the robbers.
05/07/2022 – A gang of 5 criminals used a clone of a gate’s remote control to break into a house in Planalto Paulista neighborhood, in the South Zone of Sao Paulo in the afternoon. The group invaded a residence on Alameda das Quinimuras, but the woman who lived there noticed the suspect’s action and managed to escape with her son and called the police. During the escape attempt, the group stole a car and took the driver as hostage. Two men were arrested and three managed to escape.
06/07/2022 – A businesswoman selling dresses for brides was victim of a scam. Criminals took possession of her social media accounts and sold in her name household equipment. Some clients, knowing the woman’s good reputation, decided to buy some of these equipment and, when coming to pick up their stuff, found out this was a scam. The businesswoman declared she was victim of criminals, but her clients did not believe her and claimed a refund.
06/07/2022 – The police arrested the second suspect involved in the murder of a police officer in March of this year, in Sao Paulo South Zone. The police officer was approached while driving his motorcycle with his girlfriend by two criminals. They killed him with three shots.
06/07/2022 – A chase took place between a criminal and the police. The criminal robbed a vehicle and tried to flee the police, but crashed the car in bairro Iguatemi, in the East Zone. The police arrested the criminal.
06/07/2022 – Four suspects were arrested after destroying doors of stores on Rua dos Gusmões, at the intersection with rua Guaianases, in the Campos Elíseos region, a neighborhood in the Historic Center of Sao Paulo, at dawn.
06/07/2022 – A woman had her house invaded by dozens of people who wanted to rescue a balloon in Itaquera, in the East Zone of Sao Paulo. The resident was sleeping with her five daughters when several people invaded the house. The people broke tiles, the house gate, and a security camera.
