02/10/2022 – The body of a man, still unidentified, was found in the sea, at Praia do José Menino, in front of Station 2 of the Fire Department. The victim had bruises on his face and a cut on his jaw. According to the State Department of Public Security (SSP), the dead man was around 35 years old and was found in the water at around 13:00. As injuries were found on the corpse, the case was registered as suspicious death.

02/10/2022 – A teenager was apprehended with drugs by the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) in Ponta da Praia. According to City Hall, GCM agents were patrolling when they found three people in Praça Primeiro de Maio. One of these people was using drugs. The three tried to escape, but one of them, a minor, was captured.
09/10/2022 – An agent from the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) of Santos was shot during a shooting on Rua Santa Catarina, in José Menino, close to the Veículo Leve Sobre Trilhos (VLT) tunnel. One of the criminals was arrested. The Military Police (PM) carried out a joint action with the GCM chasing a vehicle that had been stolen.
09/10/2022 – A Mini Market, located in Ponta da Praia, was robbed by three men, aged 18, 25 and 26, and a teenager, aged 16. They broke into the establishment, stole alcoholic drinks and cigarettes, fled from the police, and even attacked a woman held hostage inside their own house, before being arrested by the Military Police.
12/10/2022 – A shooting between criminals and the Military Police (PM) took place on Avenida Nossa Senhora do Monte Serrat, in Morro do Fontana. The police vehicle was left full of holes in the front window, hit by at least 17 shots. It all happened while the team was searching for a car that had been stolen. During the patrol, the police located the vehicle surrounded by five suspicious men, who, upon seeing the military, shot at the corporation.
15/10/2022 – An arsenal of shotguns with ammunition was seized by the Military Police (PM) on Avenida Governador Mário Covas Júnior, in the Vila Sapo community, in the Ponta da Praia neighborhood. The material was inside a shack. At the time of the incident, there was no one at the scene. Teams were patrolling the neighborhood when they were informed about strange movement during the early hours of the morning in a small house in the area. When they arrived at the address, they found the ammunition and weapons.
19/10/2022 – Appointed as one of the leaders of a criminal faction that operates in Bairro Rádio Clube, Gabriel Moraes Lima, 22 years old, known as ‘Do Gás’, was arrested at home by civil police officers. With him, the Police seized cell phones, false documents and located two camouflaged monitoring cameras on an electricity pole. The equipment was used by criminals to control the area.
21/10/2022 – Two military police officers (PM) were victims of an attempted murder on Avenida Washington Luiz (Canal 3), in Vila Matias. During a chase, criminals shot several times at the vehicle, but the security officers were not hit. The criminals managed to flee the scene.
23/10/2022 – Two criminals on a stolen motorcycle shot military police officers (PM) during an approach on Avenida Ana Costa, in the Encruzilhada neighborhood. One criminal died and two officers were shot. According to the police report, at 2:30 a police team spotted two men on a stolen motorcycle and began following the vehicle. The criminals tried to escape while one of them shot at the police. The police officers retaliated.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of Embaré, Ponto da Praia, Campo Grande, Rádio Clube, Downtown and Estuário.
- Never visit neighborhoods on the hills, such as Morro de São Bento, Jabaquara, Saboo and others.
- The waterfront has many incidents of opportunistic thefts, never display wealth and avoid walks there during the night.
- Residences in the of Pompeia, Gonzaga, Boqueirão, Embaré, Aparecida, Estuário and Ponta da Praia are frequently targeted by thieves. Make sure your building is well protected.
- Be cautious at all times, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, mobile phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers if attacked.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant as they might be armed or resort to violence.
- In case of kidnapping:
- Cooperate in order to mitigate the risk of violence, and do not lie or provide false information to your kidnappers.
- Bear in mind that the vast majority of kidnappings are financially motivated, and that negotiation may be lengthy.
