03/12/2023 – A man dressed up as Santa Klaus has been arrested by the police, in Vila Matias, Centre Santos. During a patrol, the officers noticed the stressed attitude of the man. They decided then to control him and found a knife and cash in his backpack. When the cops verified his documents in their system, they perceived the man is a fugitive from the State Penitentiary of Guareí, interior SP, since 2018. He was detained for robbery with homicide.

06/12/2023 – After the loss of the match and their downgrade to 2nd division, FC Santos supporters rioted with violence in and outside the stadium in Vila Belmiro, Centre Santos. The supporters organized themselves to confront the police just after the match, in the stadium, throwing bottles, stones, and fireworks. The mounted police responded with pepper gas and flash bang bombs. Outside the stadium, the supporters burned 6 buses and a few cars, inclusive the car of a player. 11 police officers were wounded. Nobody has been arrested.
09/12/2023 – A group of supporters of the Santos FC tried to invade the gymnasium of the club during the election of the club´s new president. The security teams of the club contained the riot until the arrival of the anti-riot squad of the police. The election has been interrupted for 20 minutes and the club´s associates have been evacuated from the local. This riot is one of the results of the downgrade of the Santos FC to 2nd division on 6th of December, which left a tense climate in the city.
14/12/2023 – A merchant registered a complaint for fraud at the 7th Police Precinct, in Gonzaga, Centre of Santos. The victim only perceived the fraud when the Santos energy company cut the furnishment. Indeed, he has received a false invoice of the energy company via e-mail, as the real energy company does not use anymore paper invoices. He said to the detectives there was no way to distinguish the real from the false, as every detail was similar from one to the other. He also declared that the only way for the bandits to have such personal details is that the energy company could have been hacked or having some employee that transmit the data to the criminals.
19/12/2023 – Two bandits attempted to rob a motorcycle in Valongo neighborhood, North Santos. Both criminals pretended to be armed and tried to steal a motorcycle, but they failed to turn on the engine and got spooked by other vehicles honking. The 2 bandits ran away after one of them getting a slap from the victim.
19/12/2023 – 2 Filipinos shipmen were arrested by the PF during a routine search and seize operation in the Port of Santos. Indeed, they were caught with 10 kg of cocaine sticked on their bodies and in plastic handbags. They were placed in custody and will respond for transnational drug trafficking.
20/12/2023 – 28yo woman has been attacked and injured in Gonzaga, coastline of Santos. She was going to her workplace when she saw a frenzied homeless shouting in the street. As she passed nearby the man, he knocked her in the ear, she bounced on a store door and fell on the ground. The man has not been found.
23/12/2023 – A prison officer has been involved in a shootout in São Jorge, West Santos. The officer noticed 4 suspects on 2 motorcycles attempting to rob another motorcyclist and decided to intervene. He succeeded to warding off the bandits after an intense shootout. Nobody has been injured, nor arrested.
24/12/2023 – In Chico de Paula, West Santos, a man robbed about 70 products from a hypermarket. He fulfilled his chariot with more than 40 chocolate bars and more than 30 bottles of alcohol, went to his car and left the store. The police have been called and they caught the man on his way home, on the frontier with the neighbouring city São Vicente. He has been placed in custody.
26/12/2023 – Homeless robbed the taxi from a 77yo elderly in Centre of Santos and has been arrested by the highway police in Mongaguá. The 28yo suspect took the taxi as a passenger in the early morning and asked to go to the bus station. In the middle of the way, he pushed a knife and announced the carjack. He took the car and drove outside Santos. The highway police got him in Mongaguá, almost 40km west of Santos, and placed him in custody.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of Embaré, Ponto da Praia, Campo Grande, Rádio Clube, Downtown and Estuário.
- Never visit neighborhoods on the hills, such as Morro de São Bento, Jabaquara, Saboo and others.
- The waterfront has many incidents of opportunistic thefts, never display wealth and avoid walks there during the night.
- Residences in the of Pompeia, Gonzaga, Boqueirão, Embaré, Aparecida, Estuário and Ponta da Praia are frequently targeted by thieves. Make sure your building is well protected.
- Be cautious at all times, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, mobile phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand over to muggers if attacked.
- In case of robbery: cooperate, do not try to run after the assailant as they might be armed or resort to violence.
- In case of kidnapping:
- Cooperate in order to mitigate the risk of violence, and do not lie or provide false information to your kidnappers.
- Bear in mind that the vast majority of kidnappings are financially motivated, and that negotiation may be lengthy.
