The war in West Zone neighborhoods of Rio continues to leave residents insecure and afraid. In the Anil region alone, six people were killed in less than a month. On a social network, the Military Police reported that they had reinforced patrols in Praça Seca. The region has also suffered from urban warfare promoted by criminals. The war in the Anil region is connected to the dispute between rival militiamen and traffickers, who fight for control of regions in the West Zone. Clashes were also recorded in nearby neighborhoods. The region has been the scene of constant shootings.

27/02/2023 – Two criminals died, and one was injured in a shooting with Military police in Vila Kennedy, in the West Zone. According to the Military Police, a patrolling team arriving at the base of the community was attacked by a group of armed men. With the criminals, the police collected a rifle and a pistol.
27/02/2023 – A criminal known as Robin Hood, was arrested by civil police in a mall in Botafogo, South Zone. He is appointed as the biggest thief of luxury residences in the South and West zones of Rio. According to investigations, he usually acts alone and at night. In the last two months, he would have stolen three residences in a luxury condominium in São Conrado, South Zone. From the places, he took money, designer watches and electronics valued at more than R$ 1 million.
28/02/2023 – Segurança Presente officers arrested three men who tried to rob a department store on Avenida Olegário Maciel in Barra da Tijuca, West Zone. The trio tried to flee on a motorbike, but, after pursuit, were arrested by the police. During the robbery, the store manager managed to escape and asked a police car for help. The police officer gave chase and found Barra Presente officers, who also started to follow the bandits.
28/02/2023 – A sergeant died after being shot in Guadalupe, North Zone. According to the Military Police, he and his team were moving through the Muquiço favela when they suffered a fire attack. Shoot in the chest, the officer was rescued by colleagues and taken to the hospital.
28/02/2023 – A shooting on Araticum Street in Anil, West Zone, left four men dead and one injured. According to the Military Police, officers were responding to a shootout report. Arriving at the scene, they found out that three people were dead and that others were injured.
01/03/2023 – A radiologist was arrested in Copacabana, South Zone after a patient called the police and reported being abused during an exam. According to the Civil Police, it was not the first harassment complaint against him. The victim said she looked for the clinic to do a mammogram. According to her, the technician induced her to undergo a gynecological examination as well, saying that the procedure would be free. During the examination, the doctor touched her without gloves and without her consent.
01/03/2023 – A young man was shot dead on Rua Engenheiro Souza Filho, in Itanhangá, West Zone. Witnesses say that the 24-year-old was returning from work when he was shot in the back. He worked as a liquor delivery guy at a warehouse in the area. According to residents, he would have been killed by militiamen who did not agree with him buying drugs for his own use in another community, which is controlled by drug trafficking.
01/03/2023 – A shooting between police and drug dealers happened in the Vila Aliança community, in Bangu, West Zone. A criminal died. The shooting started around 19:00 near Estrada do Taquaral. According to the Military Police, police officers were passing through the region when they were shot at and fought back.
02/03/2023 – A military police officer was killed, and another injured in the Camorim neighborhood, West Zone. The two were at a snack bar on Igarapé Street when armed criminals drove by and fired at the officers.
02/03/2023 – Governor of Rio de Janeiro Cláudio Castro’s father was the victim of a robbery on Rua Visconde de Caravelasno, Humaitá, South Zone. The 74-year-old was in front of a restaurant when a man, wearing a delivery service vest, passed by on a bicycle and took his cell phone.
