RIO DE JANEIRO SECURITY INCIDENTS – 1ST BULLETIN OF FEBRUARY

27/01/2023 – A man was hit by a stray bullet while crossing a street in Guadalupe, North Zone. A security camera shows the moment the man was shot and fell to the ground. Residents report an intense shooting in the region.

29/01/2022 – One of the most dangerous and violent drug dealers in Rio de Janeiro escaped from the prison where he was serving his sentence. Known as “Jean do 18”, headed the traffic on Morro do Dezoito, in Água Santa, North Zone. According to the police, in 2013, he commanded the invasion of the Bangu Forum and, in 2016, he had his own lawyer killed. The criminal had been in prison since 2017. He managed to escape with two accomplices from the Lemos de Brito Penitentiary, which is located inside the Gericinó Complex, in Bangu, West Zone. Jean escaped with the help of a rope made of sheets thrown next to the Special Operations Service base, at the back of the prison complex.

29/01/2023 – Criminals drove by shooting at Morro do Fubá, in Cascadura, North Zone. Three people were hit. According to investigations, the target was a man who died at the scene.But the shooters also hit another man and an 80-year-old woman.

30/01/2023 – A Military police officer killed an Army soldier who would have peed in his car in Bangu, West Zone. The crime would have happened after an argument between two military personnel after the police officer saw the soldier peeing in the door of his car, at the exit of a nightclub. The police officer says that he warned the boy, who then crossed the street, grabbed a pistol simulacrum, and threatened the PM who shot him.

31/01/2023 – A young man was shot dead on Rua Silvério, in Cascadura, North Zone. According to the Military Police, witnesses stated that the victim was sitting in a square when a vehicle approached, and two occupants shot at the boy. Witnesses also claim that the victim was a pharmacy delivery man in the region and point to militiamen as the perpetrators of the shots.

31/01/2023 – The Civil Police arrested a militiaman accused of participating in the recent wars in favelas in the Jacarepaguá region, West Zone. Known as Gabriel GB, he reacted to the police action, was shot during the operation of the Police Station for the Repression of Organized Criminal Actions and Special Inquiries (DRACO-IE) and taken to Pedro II Hospital. With him, a rifle with a telescopic scope with more than one hundred ammunition and five chargers were seized.

31/01/2023 – Police officers from the Shock Police Battalion (BPChq) were shot by criminals while on patrol in the vicinity of Cidade de Deus, West Zone. According to the Military Police, the shots were fired from a forest area against the teams occupying the region. There was retaliation on the part of the PMs. The intense shooting scared drivers passing through the Linha Amarela. Images and videos published on social networks show the moments of terror that the population went through. In one of the images, it is possible to see military police officers trying to protect themselves from the attacks.

02/01/2023 – A retired police officer died on Avenida Rio Branco, in downtown Rio de Janeiro, after being shot. The criminals fled. Police still don’t know if the man was the victim of robbery or execution. According to the first information, he was responsible for the security in one of the floors of a commercial building in the region.

02/01/2023 – Criminals made a mass robbery and vandalized stores and businesses in the Jardim América neighborhood, North Zone. One of the men was armed. Images show many people running and Military Police vehicles. In the action, some windows were destroyed. According to the Military Police, drug dealers from Favela Furquim Mendes ordered the attack after the death of a drug dealer.
