A FAL 7.62 mm rifle was stolen from a soldier in the area of the Aman Command and Services Battalion (Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras), the cradle of Army officership, in Resende, Rio de Janeiro, on Sunday (12/11).
The battalion command ordered the establishment of a Military Police Inquiry to investigate the robbery and identify those responsible. Public security bodies assist in the investigation and search for the weapon.

In a statement, Aman reported that the battalion’s soldiers are stationed for security reasons during investigations, that is, they are prevented from leaving the Army unit. The number of soldiers stationed was not disclosed.
Another Case
On 21 September machine guns were stolen from the Arsenal de Guerra, in Barueri, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. Soldiers and officers were stationed during the investigations. Nineteen weapons were recovered in militia and organized crime areas in Rio de Janeiro.
Analysis:
The Agulhas Negras Military Academy, in Rio de Janeiro, is one of the most traditional Brazilian academies for training Army combatants. Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) graduated from the institution in 1977. For comparative purposes, according to the Sou da Paz Institute, between January 2015 and March 2020, 27 Army weapons were stolen, robbed, or diverted in Brazil. The case is not unprecedented this year. Four of the 21 machine guns stolen from an Army barracks in Greater São Paulo in September have not yet been recovered. Which shows that the army has not yet corrected security procedures to prevent other incidents like this. Furthermore, these stolen weapons pose a serious risk to the population and law enforcement forces when in the hands of organized crime.
