02/01/2023 – A man was shot dead near the bus station, in downtown Macaé. A suspect in the crime has been arrested. According to the Military Police, officers received information about the homicide and took security footage near the crime scene, making it possible to identify the vehicle used by the killers, as well as one of those involved, who is the head of drug trafficking in Morro do Carvão.
08/02/2023 – A man was arrested during an integrated operation by the Civil and Military Police. The operation was launched in repression of the activity of drug trafficking factions involved in vehicle theft and drug trafficking. The operation took place in the Aeroporto and Lagomar neighborhoods. In addition to the prisoner, two motorcycles were recovered, and narcotic material seized.
09/02/2023 – A 17-year-old young man was found dead at Praia do Lagomar, in the Lagomar neighborhood. According to the police, the victim was identified, and the cause of death was found to be transfixing injuries to the skull and chest with damage to the brain and left lung, caused by a perforating-blunt action. So far there is no information about the authorship and motivation of the crime, and no one has been arrested.
10/02/2023 – A man considered a fugitive from justice was arrested by the Military Police in the Nova Holanda community. According to the police, officers were carrying out diligences in the region when they came across a man already known to be a member of a criminal faction. He was approached and, upon being questioned, confessed that he had escaped from the prison system.
18/02/2023 – A 16-year-old youth died during the robbery of a motorcycle in the Ajuda de Baixo neighborhood. According to the Military Police, the boy was driving the vehicle when he was hit by a gunshot to the head. The criminals fled taking the motorcycle. He was rescued but succumbed to his injuries and died.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- After dark, avoid Glória and the Centro (Downtown).
- After dark, avoid walking alone in Praia Campista and Cavaleiros.
- Avoid Lagomar, Barra de Macaé, Engenho da Praia, Planalto da Ajuda, Ajuda de Cima, Ajuda de Baixo, Morro de Santana and Morro de São Jorge (in Paraíso), Fronteira, Jardim Maringá, Barra, Nova Holanda, Malvinas, Botafogo, Aroeira, Parque Aeroporto and the surroundings of Favela da Linha (in between Visconde de Araújo and Cajueiros), as risks of collateral damage and assault are high in these areas.
- As much as possible, restrict movement in the districts of Novo Horizonte (in Vale Encantado) and Parque Aeroporto. Do not walk alone in these areas and use only licensed taxis.
- Be careful when walking downtown, avoid exposing valuables.
- Be always cautious, including in areas perceived as safe.
- Avoid any display of wealth (jewelry, cell phones), but always carry a small amount of money (R$50) to hand.
