The federal government is coordinating with representatives of the security departments of the 26 states and the Federal District to create a standard for the use of body cameras by the country’s police forces. The intention is to define by December the first guidelines with the same criteria for the entire country.

Work group
The work is headed by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, which wants to define standardization, among other things, to: Equipment that may be used by security forces, The image capture format, Storage of these images, Which people will have access to the databases.
To arrive at the guidelines, the ministry organized a national meeting on cameras in the uniforms of police officers and other security agents between the 29 and 31 of August. At the event, around 250 members of the state security forces brought local experiences with the cameras and presented their plans and usage models.
Benefits
The government’s intention is to subsidize states that invest in public policy and that follow the guidelines — which are not mandatory. However, there is still no definition of amounts to be passed on next year.
National Force
On the other hand, the ministry intends to implement the use of body cameras by the National Force, made up of around 1,300 police officers from the states who work in specific operations called by the federal government. There is no exact date for the start of use.
