The dispute over territory between drug dealers and militiamen in Morro do Fubá, in the Campinho neighborhood, North Zone, has affected the routine of students and employees of the Fundação Técnico-Educacional Souza Marques in such a way that it became the subject of a lecture.
Due to the constant shootings – which intensified in July of this year – the institution was forced to suspend classes on several occasions. The violence in the area reached such a point that the Souza Marques direction decided to hire a public safety professional to guide the academic community on how to act in risky situations.
The students who participated in the lectures committed to go from room to room, passing on the content to colleagues who were not present.
One of the guidelines addresses how to behave during a shooting: it is recommended that all students remain seated in the center of the classroom, as there is an angle, from the hill, for a shot to hit the windows or the corridor wall. In hallways or other parts of the building, students, faculty, and staff should seek shelter behind structures with bullet-resistant materials, such as concrete walls, brick walls clad externally with concrete, and solid wood. The guideline is not to seek protection behind doors.
