Based on the preliminary decision of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Minister Edson Fachin, the Army suspended the authorization for the purchase of restricted-use weapons to CACs (hunters, shooters and collectors). The minister determined, on 05/09, restrictions on the number of weapons and ammunition that can be obtained by CACs under the argument of increasing the risk of political violence in the electoral campaign. The suspension applies only to restricted-use weapons that could be obtained by CACs. The minister also suspended part of one of the decrees establishing the number of weapons to be acquired by CACs. However, the decision did not specify whether the new quantity would be the same as the previous standard. The sports shooter, for example, before Bolsonaro’s decrees was divided into three levels. The highest level, those participating in national championships, could buy up to 16 weapons and 40,000 ammunition a year. In Bolsonaro’s decrees the division by level ceased to exist and anyone could buy up to 60 weapons, being able to acquire 180 thousand ammunition annually.
