08/09/2022 – A fisherman was stabbed in Praia da Longa, Ilha Grande. Two men suspected of committing the crime were arrested. According to the Civil Police, the fight began after the three involved spent the night in a bar known in the locality as an environment that attracts people who drink and use drugs. The three stayed overnight at the place and, in the morning, they had an argument about “who’s boss in the area”.

10/09/2022 – Three men involved in drug trafficking were killed in a shooting with military police in the Sapinhatuba II neighborhood. According to the Military Police, officers were carrying out routine patrols at the site when they spotted a group of 10 armed men. As they approached, the police were met with gunfire and retaliated.
15/09/2022 – The former mayor and current councilor of Itatiaia (RJ), Silvano Rodrigues da Silva, aka Vaninho, and six other people were arrested in the third phase of the Apanthropía Operation, which is being carried out by the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ). The action investigates the embezzlement of public money from the prefecture of Itatiaia. In addition to Itatiaia, the operation also takes place in Valença, Angra dos Reis, in the district of Visconde de Mauá, in Resende, and in Rio de Janeiro (RJ).
23/09/2022 – A shooting between the Military Police and drug traffickers on Rua Leontino de Souza, in the Água Santa neighborhood, ended with an 18-year-old young man arrested. Military police went to the address to verify reports of drug sales. According to the PM, upon arriving at the scene, officers were shot at by the criminals. After the shooting stopped, the man was found with 158 cocaine capsules and two radio transmitters.
24/09/2022 – A 24-year-old man was shot dead on Rua da Torre, in the Village neighborhood. The victim was already dead when police officers arrived at the scene. According to the PM, the body had several bullet wounds.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking were also registered this month.
- In the case of being in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Downtown, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba and Morro da Glória.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas.
- After nightfall, avoid circulating on the BR-101, due to the increased risk of robbery and assault.
