04/11/2023 – Military Police arrested two men for drug trafficking on Morro da Fortaleza, in downtown Angra dos Reis. With them, officers seized cocaine, crack, marijuana, and a radio communicator. The officers reached the criminals while patrolling the hill. The police ordered their arrest, the pair did not resist and ended up being arrested.

07/11/2023 – A man was shot dead on Rua Rosa Saron, in the Parque Belém neighborhood, at around 14:00. According to the Military Police (PM), the 34-year-old victim was already dead when help arrived at the address. Still according to the PM, the boy had gone to the police station in the morning, claiming that he was being threatened by a man.
16/11/2023 – During a patrol in Morro da Glória 1, Centre Angra, the Military Police involved in a gunfight and found 2 defensive hand grenades. After a denunciation, the Police made this operation to catch a drug dealer. When the officers arrive on the spot, the suspect began a gunfight and fled to the bush, leaving behind 2 defensive hand grenades. Worth to point that defensive grenades are the most lethal hand grenades, due to the 360o shrapnel blast.
19/11/2023 – Federal Police arrested 4 bandits and their empty boat for drug trafficking, in the bay of Angra. The Feds have tested the boat and registered some cocaine residues. The investigations pointed out that they have had already transferred the drug into another boat before the arrival of the Feds, as the seized boat had motor problems. The 4 were placed in custody.
26/11/2023 – Body of a 56yo female tourist has been found floating in Praia Da Costeirinha, Centre of Angra. Police said she still was with her handbag and IDs, and so she could be identified as a Uruguayan citizen. ER teams have taken her out of the water and took to the Forensic to investigate the reason of her trespass.
26/11/2023 – Police operation against drug trafficking occurred in the slum Morro Caixa d´Água, Centre of Angra. As well of the arrest of a minor aged suspect of drug dealing, the Police found various drugs and its weigher, cash, and walkie talkies.
28/11/2023 – Police operation against drug trafficking occurred in the slum Morro Santo Antônio, Centre of Angra. The Police found 3 cars, drugs, cell phones, cash and, more unexpected, a CCTV central that was monitoring the streets and the accesses of the slum.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking were also registered this month.
- In the case of being in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Downtown, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba and Morro da Glória I e II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of petty crimes.
- After nightfall, avoid circulating on the BR-101, due to the increased risk of robbery and assault.
