05/12/2022 – A man involved with the drug trafficking business died after a shooting with Military Police in Morro da Glória ll. According to the Military Police, officers were on patrol around the place when they were attacked by gunfire and fought back. At the end of the shooting, the PM found suspect shot and lying on the ground. With the man, the PM seized a pistol, a communicator and drugs.

07/12/2022 – Civil Police is investigating an attempted murder against a 38-year-old man. He was shot in the chest on Rua Francelino Alves de Lima, in the Japuíba neighborhood. Police said they are hearing witnesses and conducting inquiries at the crime scene.
12/12/2022 – A woman died in a shooting with the Military Police (PM) in Morro da Caixa D’água. According to the PM, officers were on patrol around the place when they were shot at and fought back. With the woman, a gun, a magazine, marijuana, and cocaine were seized.
17/12/2022 – A man involved with the local drug trafficking business died after a shooting with military police in Morro da Glória l. According to the Military Police, officers were shot at and fought back. When the shooting ended, police found him lying on the ground. A pistol, two radio transmitters, cocaine, marijuana, crack stones and skanks were found with him.
19/12/2022 – Two men died, and one was shot after a shooting with Military Police in the Lambicada neighborhood. According to the Military Police, officers went to the scene to avoid disputes between criminal factions. While on patrol, they were shot at and fought back. With the criminals, the PM seized two rifles, a pistol and a grenade.
29/12/2022 – A young man, aged 23, was shot dead on Rua José Sebastião, in the Marinas neighborhood. According to the Fire Department, the victim was already dead when military police arrived at the address. The police did not arrest the perpetrators and the motivation for the crime is still unknown.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking were also registered this month.
- In the case of being in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Downtown, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba and Morro da Glória I e II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of petty crimes.
- After nightfall, avoid circulating on the BR-101, due to the increased risk of robbery and assault.
