05/12/2023 – Police launched a security operation in the districts of Sapinhatuba 1, 2 and 3. Indeed, this operation is part of a no-time limit bigger security program to search and seize every bandit or material (including cars, drugs, weapons, money, etc…) linked to the Angra organized crime. Today, a teenager has been arrested in possession of a toy gun.

08/12/2023 – Dawn storm provoked floods and landslides in Angra. Rain volume has been registered at 154mm in 2hrs of time. Several houses of the city were under water, and one has been taken away by a landslide. Nobody has been injured and the water has already been drained.
09/12/2023 – A denouncement via the police tip hotline provoked a police operation that seized a 17yo suspect and an important quantity of various drugs in Morro do Carmo, Centre Angra. As soon as the police received the denounce, they intervened in the slum with the backup of an armoured car. As the police arrived on the spot, the bandits fled, leaving behind the drugs and the teenager. The young man is being investigated for drug trafficking.
11/12/2023 – During an operation against drug trafficking, the police arrested 4 suspects (including a minor aged teenager) and a huge quantity of drugs in Morro do Carmo, Centre Angra. This was the 2nd operation that has been made from denouncement via the police tip hotline. All the suspects are being investigated for drug trafficking.
18/12/2023 – A police patrol arrested a teenager and seized drugs in Morro Santo Antônio, Centre Angra. The operation took place after an anonymous call. When the officer arrived on the spot, they noticed a 15yo teenager dealing drugs. He has been arrested and the drugs have been seized. That is the second intervention after a anonymous calls. On 17 December, another anonymous telephone call led to the arrest of a 13yo teenager dealing drugs in an abandoned house in the same slum.
19/12/2023 – Tactical forces and intelligence agents of the PM arrested a famous fugitive in Morro da Lambicada, East Angra. The officers responded to a anonymous complaint and as they arrived on the local, the bandits started an intense shootout and ran away. Juste after the cease fire, the police found the fugitive injured on the ground. The officers arrested him and took him to the hospital and seized a gun with ammunitions and drugs.
21/12/2023 – The police arrested one of the leaders of the “Comando Vermelho” gang and his general manager in Japuíba, Centre of Angra. The police operation began after a call to the 911/190 hotline. The officers seized an important quantity of drugs and the 2 criminals. They were placed in custody.
27/12/2023 – PM occupied Morro da Glória 1 & 2 during a security operation to reprehend organized crime in the region. More than 30 officers, an armoured truck and a K9 team participated to the operation. Despite K9 team seizing an important quantity of drugs and a hand grenade, nobody was arrested.
28/12/2023 – In Jacuecanga, East Angra, a 50yo woman died of suspectedly dengue haemorrhagic fever. She is the second death of the disease in the city this year, as pointed by the metropolitan secretary of health. According to the secretary, Angra counted more than 500 cases of dengue, and more than 2000 patients are still to be confirmed in the diagnosis. The city hall is still to communicate officially about this case.
TRENDS & ADVICE
- Shootouts remain the main risk facing personnel in Angra dos Reis. Several security operations related to drug trafficking were also registered this month.
- In the case of being in the immediate vicinity of a shootout:
- Lay on the ground and seek cover.
- When it is safe to do so, find the nearest building, stay away from windows, do not move until the gunfire has clearly ended.
- Attention to the sounds of shots when driving through BR-101, which has on its margins many gang-controlled zones.
- Be cautious when in the vicinity of ‘communities’, particularly: Downtown, Parque Belém, Sapinhatuba I, Sapinhatuba II, Sapinhatuba III, Areal, Parque Mambucaba and Morro da Glória I e II.
- Avoid stopping on BR-101 roadside, due to cases of robberies, especially in the most isolated areas.
- Be careful when walking downtown as there is a risk of petty crimes.
- After nightfall, avoid circulating on the BR-101, due to the increased risk of robbery and assault.
