The state of São Paulo recorded an increase in the number of robberies in the first half of the year, compared to the same period last year. There were 115,765 cases between January and June. Of this total, 3,831 were in commercial establishments. Which represents, on average, 21 cases per day. And a curious fact is that in most cases the same criminal robbed the same place more than once in a short period of time.
The state highway police has mapped the eight most dangerous points in the Rodoanel. These are points where there is a greater chance of being robbed. This road is a 180 km highway that connects several highways in São Paulo. It is widely used by truck drivers and by those who want to access cities in the metropolitan region. They are km 1.5, km 7, km 16, km 19, km 32, km 58, km 69 and km 124 to 128. There were 35 robberies in the first half of this year.
Owners of hotels located in downtown São Paulo sent a request for help to the Tourism Department because of the accumulated losses, according to them, since the chemical dependents of Cracolândia spread through the Center after actions by the Police and the City Hall in the region. According to the Hoteliers Association, the reason is the insecurity of the guests. As a result, more than 100 hotels have their bookings falling. According to the Hotel Industry Association (ABIH), out of fear, people are preferring to stay in other regions of the capital. “We made a calculation and there is a decrease of almost 30% in occupancy”, says Antônio Reinales, vice president of ABIH-SP and owner of hotels in the center.
12/08/2022 – An armed man robbed a Basic Health Unit (UBS) and a municipal school in Brasilândia, North Zone. The suspect’s first target was UBS, where the criminal stole cell phones from patients and a nurse. Then the man broke into the municipal school which is less than 500 meters from the site of the first robbery. Security cameras installed inside the school recorded part of the criminal’s action. He entered some rooms to rob employees, threatening victims with a gun. In one of the images, students appear running scared.
12/08/2022 – Two criminals shot two men in the São Lucas neighborhood, East Zone. Police suspect the crime was an ambush to settle accounts. One of the victims died at the scene and the other young man is hospitalized.
12/08/2022 – A 67-year-old man lost more than R$8,000 after being kidnapped on Luísa Bocchiglieri Ximenes Street, in Interlagos, South Zone. He was leaving his house when his car was stopped by criminals. The driver was placed in the criminals’ car and taken into captivity. Approximately 20 minutes later, a person called the daughter’s phone demanding the amount of R$ 8,000. Frightened, she made transfer via Pix. man works, contacted the family and informed them that he had been released. The elderly man was later released in an alley in the Vila Natal neighborhood, in the Grajaú region.
13/08/2022 – A young man was run over by a car after an argument outside a bar in the Itaim Bibi neighborhood, South Zone. The victim was with friends at a nightclub, which is next to the parking lot. The driver was also at the nightclub, and on the way out, there was an argument about who would get out of the parking lot first. According to family members, the victim tried to calm down the situation and the driver accelerated and ran over him twice. He died instantly.
14/08/2022 – A 68-year-old man was held hostage in Jardim Paulistano, Brasilândia region, North Zone. The victim said that he scheduled a date with a woman through a dating app and when he arrived, he was approached by two men. He was taken to a property in a community. The group stole the elderly man’s cell phone, car and demanded bank account passwords to make transfers and loans. He was assaulted and released moments later. The Military Police arrested a couple involved in the crime.
14/08/2022 – Criminals made a mass robbery in Perdizes, West Zone. They were armed and took cell phones, jewelry and watches from the victims, in addition to their cars.
Our analysis:
When finding yourself still in an exposed space like in a street, it is important to remain attentive to the movement around you. Even if you feel relaxed, remaining aware of your surroundings is of great importance for your protection. It is possible sometimes to anticipate risky situations, such as a robbery that is occurring on the same street where you are. Thus, it may be possible to escape before the criminals think of coming for you.
14/08/2022 – A journalist was shot in the face during a robbery in the Rio Pequeno region, West Zone. Security cameras recorded the moment when the victim was parking his car on Padre Paulo Canelles Street, around 19h00, when two men on a motorcycle approached. The criminal who was on the back gets down, puts part of the body inside the vehicle and shoots. Then the duo flees. The victim’s vehicle accelerates and collides head-on with a pole.
15/08/2022 – A man was arrested accused of selling stolen cars on the internet. The police had been investigating the scammer’s actions for two months and he was arrested while closing a deal. He advertised on a famous sales website to lure victims, offering imported cars at prices a little below the market.
16/08/2022 – A woman was robbed and had her motorcycle taken on Conde Moreira Lima Street, at the intersection with Virgílio de Lemos Street, in the Jabaquara neighborhood, South Zone. Security cameras in the region caught the action of the criminals, who approached the victim at the moment she was stopped with the motorcycle waiting for traffic to be released.
16/08/2022 – A man had his car stolen in front of his house in Vila Matilde, East Zone. He parked the vehicle in front of his house after a day of work and a few hours later his brother informed him that the car was no longer there.Security camera footage shows the criminal taking the vehicle away in less than 5 minutes.
17/08/2022 – Two criminals who robbed high-end homes in São Paulo were arrested. They were members of a gang that invaded the properties wearing police clothes and even a false search and seizure warrant.
17/08/2022 – A woman was standing in front of a building, in the Perdizes neighborhood, West Zone, when she had her cell phone taken from her hands, quickly, by a criminal in a bicycle.
17/08/2022 – Four people were arrested for having practiced a series of scams that led companies to have losses that exceeded R$ 100 million. The Public Ministry of São Paulo investigates the damage caused by a group that bought companies with financial problems and when they took over the management of the companies, they stopped paying the purchase installments. In addition, they stopped paying the employees and sold the companies’ assets.
