The Political Action Network for Sustainability in partnership with the Brazilian Public Safety Forum published, with support from the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, the study “Violence and Democracy: the Brazilian panorama prior to the 2022 elections, perceptions on fear of violence, authoritarianism, and democracy“, based on data obtained from Datafolha.
The work includes a survey showing that 67,5% of the 2100 respondents are afraid of being physically attacked because of their political or partisan choice, and 3,2% have been threatened for political reasons in the last month.
The survey also measures the propension for democracy, propension to support authoritarian position and propension to support the Human Rights agenda. The data is layered by age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, level of education, income and other factors. Average support for authoritarian positions decreased by 10% in Brazil between 2017 and 2022. The propension to support the Human Rights agenda also decreased.
