On Sunday (30/10), Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was elected president by defeating in the second round President Jair Bolsonaro. The elections are evaluated by political commentators as the fiercest dispute since redemocratization and a turbulent campaign, marked by historical polarization, fake news on social networks, a battle for religious affiliation and episodes of political violence. The result was confirmed by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) at 19:57. At the end of the vote counting, Lula received 50.90% (60.3 million votes), and Bolsonaro, with 49.10% (58.2 million votes). Since free presidential elections have resumed in 1989, this is the smallest difference in both percentage and absolute numbers (2.1 million more votes for the winner). Overcoming the 60 million votes mark, Lula became the most voted president in history. Bolsonaro is the first president that did not manage to reelect himself since redemocratization.

Mechanical turner, union leader and founding member of the PT, Lula, 77, is the first former president to return to office. He ruled for two terms, between 2003 and 2010. He left the Planalto with record approval and was succeeded by Dilma Rousseff, who was in charge of the executive between 2011 and 2016, when she suffered impeachment. Lula returns 12 years after ending his second government and three after leaving prison, where he spent 580 days.

Truck Drivers Protest
Groups truckers supporting President Jair Bolsonar began to close highways in at least 13 states against the victory of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva over Jair Bolsonaro for a presidency. The blockages began hours after the announcement of the petista’s victory, which was made official at 19:57 on Sunday (30). Until around 11:35 of this Monday (31/10), there were 64 protests in the following states: Bahia, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rondônia, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Sao Paulo, and Tocantins.
The Federal Highway Police (PRF) has claimed to be negotiating with truckers but has not adopted measures to remove the truckers. According to the corporation, there are 70 blockade points.
