Inspectors of the Regional Electoral Court of Rio de Janeiro (TRE/RJ) verified the action of militia scouts to prevent the assessment of flagrant illegalities in the campaign in the capital. In areas of Campo Grande and Santa Cruz, in the West Zone, these scouts circulated on motorcycles to monitor the arrival of inspectors and warn them people doing illegal electoral propaganda in time to avoid action and possible arrest of those responsible.
Operation
From the beginning of June until Saturday, a team of 22 inspectors from the TRE-RJ, made up of military personnel from the Military Police and the Fire Department, acted in the inspection of advertising in the municipality of Rio. On 2 October, they also caught cases of illegal campaigns in Tijuca and Rocha Miranda, in the North Zone. Allegedly teams hired to make propaganda, distribute leaflets and display candidate flags in areas close to polling places were observed
The team was concerned to do a discreet job and avoid confrontations, as in the two previous elections (2018 and 2020) they were attacked while on duty. In some location, criminals threw stones on them.
Rules
The inspectors explained that the voter’s personal manifestation of support is allowed, but propaganda practices are prohibited.
