The Armed Forces prepared an eight-hour event for the commemoration of the 7 September, on Copacabana beach, Rio de Janeiro South Zone. The celebration should end with an act with the presence of the President Jair Bolsonaro.
Official Celebrations and Political Event
The event will include parachute jumps at 15h on the beach, 29 cannon salutes from Copacabana Fort, the passage of military ships and a presentation by the Aerial Demonstration Squadron popularly known as Smoke Squadron. The event would start at 8h. At 16h, the President is expected to fly over, by helicopter, a motorcycle parade organized by supporters, which will start at the Pracinhas Monument, in the Flamengo neighborhood, and will head to Copacabana beach.
Opposition’s Demonstrate Downtown
In downtown Rio de Janeiro, members from the opposition have scheduled on the same day a demonstration called the “Grito dos Excluídos” (Cyr of the Excluded), who will gather, from 9h on the corner of Rua Uruguaiana and Avenida Presidente Vargas. Later, they will march until the Cais do Valongo, an old facility located in the port region of the city.
Chances of Conflict
The event will be promoted on the same date as the pro-government act, scheduled to take place in Copacabana. Although the pro-government event and the Grito dos Excluídos are scheduled for different locations, there is no way to exclude the possibility of attrition between supporters of the current government, who, on their way through the city, may pass, purposefully or not, through the same places where the protesters of the Cry of the Excluded will be.
